About Mrs. Hetman

Mrs. Jodi Hetman has been teaching at Revere Local Schools since 2015. Before the 19/20 school year, she was teaching second grade at Richfield Elementary School. This year, she moved up to Bath Elementary School to teach Fourth Grade. She loves teaching math and science and is excited to see where this position pushes her as an educator.

Outside of school, Mrs. Hetman is married with one daughter (also a Fourth Grader at Bath Elementary) and many pets. She has three dogs (Rhea, Ivy, and Dyson), a cat (Zoey), and two guinea pigs (Pumpkin and Spice).

When she is not teaching, she is playing with her family, reading, creating something, or napping. Mrs. Hetman also loves technology and is proud to be a member of the Revere Local School District's Innovation Team. She is a certified Apple Teacher and enjoys sharing her passion with other educators.

About Mrs. Hetman's teaching strategies

Mrs. Hetman loves technology and it is often integrated into her classroom. This year, she is looking forward to using a "Flipped Classroom" model for math and a hands-on approach for science. Mrs. Hetman's main classroom rule is simply "Respect." She is passionate about creating classroom communities in which everyone respect's one another's strengths, weaknesses, and everyone rises up to help one another. Furthermore, Mrs. Hetman embraces the idea that students have a need to move, create, write, explain, and pursue concepts that are interesting to them.

Flipped Classroom

If you are unfamiliar with a Flip Classroom model, the primary concept is that lessons will be recorded in video format for your student to view online prior to class (for example: as homework, morning work, class warm-up, etc.). These lessons are usually 5 to 10 minutes in length and the student is asked questions periodically throughout the video lesson to gauge understanding and keep their interest.

The student can replay each video lesson as often as needed to understand the concept both at home and in class. This is one major advantage of video recording the lessons. The other benefit is that parents can watch the video, too, if their child needs help. Sometimes, today's math concepts are outside the standard algorithms parents learned so this can be a huge time saver for everyone at home.

The video will often be assigned as the student's homework. As a result, Mts. Hetman will be working with the students on the exercises they would have been given as homework in class. Those students that need more one-on-one time will have Mrs. Hetman right there when they need her most.
